That is a mouthful to say but come out and see the art that illuminates the human experience, fires the imagination, and nurtures the soul. This exhibition is not only a celebration of artistic talent but also a tribute to the strength and creativity of accomplished women artists in our community.
  7. Sunday the Flamingo Flea Market is back at Tarpon River Brewing, and this week its the Puppy Brunch. Spend the day at Tarpon River Brewing learning about doggie services like grooming, training, vets, dog walkers and more.

So... You Think You Know South Florida?

You probably know... Fort Lauderdale is an up and coming city that is attracting attention all around the world.

But what you might not know is... that our FTL was recently spotlighted by the South Florida Insider and featuring DDA's own Jenni Morejon as she shared what makes our community unique.

As Morejon explained, "Fort Lauderdale’s connectability is what makes it a unique, top destination. A buzzing downtown district is connected to Fort Lauderdale’s famous beaches by just two short miles along its famed Las Olas Boulevard. As the “Venice of America” and a yachting capital of the world, everything in Fort Lauderdale is connected by water. Whether dining along the water, walking along the Riverwalk, or traversing the city’s 300 miles of canals and waterways by private boat or Water Taxi, this nautical environment sets Fort Lauderdale apart from other tropical destinations. Further, Fort Lauderdale is home to an expanded nightlife and restaurant scene, with neighborhoods such as Downtown, Las Olas, FAT Village, Flagler Village and Fort Lauderdale Beach often drawing in dynamic crowds where residents and tourists alike connect."

Flotsam & Jetsam

Every state in the Union is known for an iconic dish or delicacy. Do you know what Florida is famous for?

In Illinois, it is Chicago-style deep-dish pizza.

In Tennessee, it is inspired by Nashville's history with hot chicken (Hattie B's, KFC, and Dave's Hot Chicken as examples).

You might guess that Alaska is famous for its smoked salmon.

For Florida (led by South Florida culture) it's Cuban sandwiches.

Both Maine and Connecticut claim the Lobster Roll, but cold and warm varieties respectively. Having grown up in Maine, I am familiar with the cold-lobster (crab is even better) mixed with mayo and if it is done right, filled into a split hot-dog roll. But I have to admit I am partial to CT's hot-lobster, no mayo and drawn butter drizzled over the top.

Here's the complete list of favorite/famous dishes by each of the 50 states (according to Business Insider).

Idiom Of The Week

"Roger That"

Used in radio communication to acknowledge receipt of the last message, or "I agree."

In radio communication, a "spelling alphabet" (often mistakenly called a "phonetic alphabet) is used to avoid confusion between similarly sounding letters. In the previously used US spelling alphabet, R was Roger, which in radio voice procedure means "Received".

If you hear "Roger Wilco" that means "received, and will cooperate" ~ Source
